From the Writer/Director
Hello,
I am Gary Hardwick writer and director of Universal Remote. Our film, Universal Remote is a true independent production. No studios, no big time deals and no money!
We began about a year ago when my producer, Kibi Anderson and I grew frustrated with the slow path to studio development. We had a film that was casting and it was yanked at the last minute. We had made a plan to do Universal Remote if that happened. so when it did, we started out endeavor.
With the help our our line producer Lisa Looney, casting director Twinkie Byrd and director of photography Yasu Tanida we put together a first-rate cast and crew.
We shot for 12 days, running and gunning all over greater LA. It was a grueling pace but we got the film in the can and had a lot of laughs along the way.
The film and it's self-contained animated short That Darn Jesus! We are the official selection to two of LA's best festivals, the DIY Festival and the Hollywood HD Festival. We are the first American film to use digital flash animation in high definition. These two honors proved to us that we're not completely off our rockers.
Making a film on your own is very much like giving birth. It's hell but just as children are life a true indy film is artistry.
